Abstract

Innovation labs in the public sector (i-labs) emerge as part of the efforts of public entities to incorporate new trends and technologies in order to promote improvements in the provision of services to citizens. In this context, this article conducts an integrative review of the literature on innovation labs in the public sector, seeking to understand the context of their emergence and the main challenges faced in their life cycle. The research analyzed articles published between 2022 and 2024, using the Scopus, Web of Science and Scielo databases. The results indicate that i-labs emerge in different institutional contexts, responding to the growing demand for innovation in the public sector. Despite their potential to promote experimentation, a culture of innovation and the resolution of complex problems, i-labs face challenges, highlighting the importance of visionary leadership, intersectoral collaboration and long-term strategies with political and financial support, so that i-labs overcome obstacles and promote significant changes in public services.
